Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that under Section 44 of the Karnataka Land Reforms Act, 1961, the appellant-landlord is entitled to interest on the compensation amount from 1st March 1984, as determined by the High Court. The Court upheld the High Court's decision to reject the claim for interest from 1st March 1974, affirming that interest is only payable if the compensation is paid through National Savings Certificates, as per the Circular dated 24.11.1986. The outcome was a partial victory for the appellant, receiving interest from a later date than initially sought.
