Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the appellant, who was 17 years and 11 months old at the time of the offence, is not entitled to be treated as a juvenile under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, as he was above 16 years on the date of the offence, thus governed by the Juvenile Justice Act, 1986. The Court affirmed the conviction under Sections 302 and 324 IPC, stating that the provisions of the 2000 Act do not apply retroactively to those above 16 years at the time of the crime. The appeal was dismissed, upholding the trial court's decision.
