Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, the High Court erred in allowing the impleadment of multiple respondents beyond the husband and parents-in-law. The Court quashed the proceedings against the additional respondents (appellants 4 to 12) while allowing the case to proceed against the husband and his parents. The Court also found the High Court's direction for the appellants to seek bail unnecessary.
