Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court allowed the appeal, permitting the accused to compound the offences under Section 320 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, and set aside the High Court's order confirming the conviction under Sections 324 and 34 IPC. The Court held that since the parties had reached an understanding, the acquittal of the appellants was warranted. However, a cost of Rs.15,000/- was imposed on each accused for wasting judicial time, to be deposited in the Supreme Court Employees' Mutual Welfare Fund.
