Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the High Court erred in acquitting the respondent, Basti Ram, by not considering the credible testimony of the prosecutrix, H.L., who was under 16 years of age at the time of the offenses. The Court reaffirmed that under Section 375 IPC, the sole testimony of a minor victim can suffice for conviction if found credible, without the need for corroboration. Consequently, the Supreme Court overturned the High Court's decision and ordered a retrial of the case.
