Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the issue of whether a Scheduled Caste (SC) or Other Backward Caste (OBC) candidate, who migrates from one state to another after marriage, is entitled to reservation benefits in the new state. The Court found that the High Court's decisions were inconsistent with its earlier ruling in U.P. Public Service Commission Vs. Sanjay Kumar Singh, reported in (2003) 7 SCC 657. Consequently, the Supreme Court allowed the appeals and set aside the High Court's judgments and orders.
