Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court held that the appellants were entitled to a notional increase in the market value of their land acquired under the Punjab Town Improvement Act, 1922, as per the principles established in Ranjit Singh v. U.T. of Chandigarh (1992) 4 SCC 659 and other cited cases. The Court found that the High Court erred in not granting an adequate increase in value, given that the land in question was acquired in 1972, while the reference case was from 1970. Consequently, the Court directed that the compensation be recalculated to reflect this increase.
