Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that while an unregistered rent deed cannot be the sole basis for recovery of rent under the Transfer of Property Act, other uncontroverted evidence may support the claim. The Court found that the High Court erred in disregarding such evidence and emphasized that the status of the parties can still be established despite the inadmissibility of the rent deed. Consequently, the Court set aside the High Court's judgment and restored the decrees of the lower courts for recovery of rent.
