Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the Medical Council of India (MCI) cannot penalize students who were admitted to MBBS courses based on a Prospectus that did not clearly state the eligibility criteria, specifically the requirement of 50% marks in the Competitive Entrance Examination (CEE). The Court emphasized that the appellants, who had more than 50% in the qualifying examination, were innocent victims of a bona fide mistake in the Prospectus. The Court held that the appellants should be allowed to continue their studies, thereby upholding their right to education under Article 21 of the Constitution.
