Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court examined the convictions under Sections 147, 148, and 302 read with Section 149 IPC for the murder of Ramchandra Singh. The Court held that the prosecution failed to prove that the accused acted in furtherance of a common object to commit murder, as the injuries inflicted were not on vital parts and did not indicate a murderous intent. Consequently, the Court allowed the appeals of the accused, setting aside their convictions under Section 302 IPC while upholding lesser charges under Sections 147 and 148 IPC where applicable.
