COURT ON ITS OWN MOTION vs UNION OF INDIA .

The Supreme Court, in suo motu proceedings, emphasized the constitutional rights of pilgrims under Articles 21 and 19(1)(d) to safety and dignity during the Amarnath yatra. The Court highlighted the State's obligation to ensure adequate facilities and safety measures for the pilgrims, especially in light of the reported deaths due to cardiac arrests and other reasons during the yatra. The Court directed the Union of India and the State of Jammu and Kashmir to take immediate steps to improve arrangements for the safety of the yatris.
