Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the legality of the 2011 Haj Policy of the Government of India, which mandated a minimum office area of 250 sq. ft. for private operators to be eligible for registration to ferry pilgrims. The Bombay High Court upheld the policy but directed the allocation of unallocated seats to certain petitioners, which the Supreme Court stayed. The Court indicated its intention to review the Haj policy comprehensively, beyond just the eligibility criteria for private tour operators, as per its order dated February 17, 2012.
