Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the validity of Regulation 8(4) and 8(5) of the National Council for Teacher Education (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations, 2007, which require institutions to obtain NAAC accreditation with a Letter Grade B for additional student intake in B.Ed. courses. The Court found that these regulations do not violate Article 19(1)(g) of the Constitution, as they merely impose conditions for application rather than curtailing the right to establish institutions. The appeal was dismissed, affirming the High Court's decision that the regulations are prospective and valid under the NCTE Act, 1993.
