Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the U.P. Avas Evam Vikas Parishad, authorized under the U.P. Awas Evam Vikas Parishad Adhiniyam, 1965, is permitted to carry out the erection of transmission lines and associated works in its colonies as per the Government order dated 2.6.1982, which relaxes certain provisions of the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956. The Court held that the U.P. Power Corporation, as a designated licensee under Section 26 of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948, retains its statutory duties, but the Parishad's authorization does not infringe upon these duties. The outcome affirmed the legality of the Parishad's actions in the context of electricity distribution.
