Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court, in monitoring the implementation of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, emphasized the necessity of establishing Special Juvenile Police Units as per Section 63 of the Act. The Court mandated that each police station designate a trained officer as a Juvenile or Child Welfare Officer to effectively handle juvenile cases. The Court directed the Home Departments and Director Generals of Police to ensure compliance with these provisions and report back on the progress made by January 2012.
