Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the appellant-Temple was entitled to interest on the amount deposited under the Post Office Time Deposit Scheme despite the discontinuation of the scheme for institutions as per the Central Government Notification No. G & SR 118(E) 119(E) 120(E). The Court found that the acceptance of the deposit by the Post Master constituted a valid contract, and the failure to pay interest amounted to deficiency in service under the Consumer Protection Act, 1986. The appeal was allowed, and the Temple was directed to be compensated with interest on the deposited amount.
