Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court, while hearing Criminal Appeal No. 1374 of 2004, addressed a compromise petition filed under Section 320 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The Court noted that the complainant was convicted under Sections 143, 147, 447, 342, and 427 read with Section 149 IPC, but only the offences under Sections 143 and 147 are non-compoundable. Given the compromise between the parties, the Court reduced the appellants' sentence to the time already served and dismissed the appeal, discharging their bail bonds.
