Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the appellant-Temple was not entitled to interest on the deposit made under the Post Office Time Deposit Scheme as the deposit contravened the Notification issued by the Central Government, which prohibited such deposits by institutions from 01.04.1995. The Court found that the acceptance of the deposit by the Post Master was invalid due to this prohibition, and thus, there was no deficiency in service. The appeal was dismissed, affirming the decisions of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and the State Commission.
