Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Second Schedule of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, the appropriate multiplier for calculating compensation for a deceased aged 26 years is 18, not 16 as applied by the High Court. The Court restored the original order of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Kashipur, which had correctly applied the multiplier of 18. The judgment of the High Court was modified accordingly, and the appellants were directed to receive the balance amount of compensation within four weeks.
