Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the constitutionality of the prospectus for Super Speciality Medical Courses in Kerala, which favored local candidates and limited rural service reservations to 10%. Citing the precedent in Saurabh Chaudri & Ors. Vs. Union of India & Ors. [(2003) 11 SCC 146], the Court held that 100% reservation is unconstitutional, particularly at higher levels of education. The Court ultimately upheld the Division Bench's decision that while the original prospectus was unconstitutional, no relief could be granted to the appellants due to the commencement of the course over six months prior to the hearing.
