Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Chhattisgarh High Court which enhanced the compensation awarded under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The Court found that the Tribunal had erred in applying a multiplier of 8 based on the age of the deceased's father instead of considering the deceased's age of 28 years, leading to the application of a more appropriate multiplier of 13. Consequently, the total compensation was increased to Rs.4,20,600/- with interest provisions.
