The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision to enhance compensation under Section 54 of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894, to ` 345/- per square yard, including a 30% solatium and interest rates of 9% and 15% per annum. The Court noted that the Union of India contested the enhancement based on a prior ruling in Delhi Development Authority v. Bali Ram Sharma, which had reduced compensation in a similar case. However, the Court found that the facts of the current case warranted the compensation awarded by the High Court, thus dismissing the appeal.
