Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the conviction under Section 498A IPC for the appellants was justified, but reduced the sentence of Vishnu Prasad (A4) to the time already served, as he had undergone two years and eight months of imprisonment. The Court found that Navratri Tiwari (A2), being a juvenile at the time of the FIR, could not have been tried in a Criminal Court, leading to the vitiation of her trial and subsequent acquittal. The appeal was disposed of accordingly.
