Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that Letters Patent Appeals (LPAs) are not maintainable against judgments of a Single Judge of the High Court, as established by Section 100-A of the Code of Civil Procedure, which prohibits further appeals in such cases. The Court upheld the Full Bench decision of the Orissa High Court, affirming that the amendment to Section 100-A, effective from 1.7.2002, clearly states that no further appeal shall lie from the judgment of a Single Judge. Consequently, the appeals were dismissed.
