Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the Allahabad High Court's order directing the U.P. Land Development Corporation to pay the respondents, who were engaged as Assistant Engineers on a contract basis, the salary in the pay-scale of Rs.2200-4000. The Court found that despite being appointed on a contract, the respondents had completed three years of service and were entitled to the salary applicable to the post they were performing. The Court emphasized that the nature of their engagement did not negate their right to receive the appropriate remuneration as per the established pay scale.
