Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court determined that the compensation for land acquired for a grain market should be based on the market value established in a previous acquisition case, where the High Court awarded Rs.1,70,000 per acre. The Court held that due to the proximity of the two acquisitions and the rural location, an increase of 10% was justified, resulting in a new compensation rate of Rs.1,87,000 per acre. The appeals were allowed in part, granting the appellants the increased compensation along with statutory benefits and interest under the Land Acquisition Act, 1894.
