Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court interpreted Section 151-A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, concerning the holding of elections to fill a vacancy within six months when an election petition is pending. The Court clarified that the pendency of the Special Leave Petition does not affect the elections already notified and held on 27th July 2010 for the Vemulawada and Sircilla Assembly Constituencies. The order of the High Court was set aside, but the bye-elections already conducted were upheld and unaffected by this judgment.
