Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court ruled that the appellants, school teachers appointed on a contractual basis under the Chandigarh Education Service (School Cadre) (Group `C') Recruitment Rules, 1991, have no inherent right to regularization of their services. The Court upheld the Tribunal's decision that their appointments were temporary and could be terminated upon the appointment of regularly selected teachers. The Court emphasized that the principles laid down in Secretary, State of Karnataka vs. Uma Devi (2006) 4 SCC 1 do not apply as the appellants were not in a position to claim regularization based on their contractual status.
