Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court addressed the issue of whether cooperative societies operating in both Uttar Pradesh and the newly formed Uttaranchal are governed by the U.P. State Cooperative Societies Act, 1965 or the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984 following the bifurcation of Uttar Pradesh under the U.P. State Re-organization Act, 2000. The Court held that the PACSFED automatically became a Multi State Cooperative Society on 09.11.2000, as per Section 95 of the Multi-State Act, and quashed the High Court's order that had annulled its registration under the Multi-State Act. The appeals were allowed, affirming the validity of the PACSFED's registration.
