Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Calcutta High Court which set aside the admissions of students in various Engineering colleges in West Bengal due to non-compliance with A.I.C.T.E. regulations and improper admissions without counselling. The Court emphasized that private colleges cannot independently admit students and mandated a reduction in management quota for the following academic years to offset the irregular admissions. The Court directed that future admissions must only include students who meet the cut-off marks in the relevant entrance examinations.
