Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court, in Civil Appeal No. 2044 of 2009, held that the doctrine of 'equal pay for equal work' does not apply automatically and requires an Equi Valance Committee to assess wage parity based on work nature and responsibilities. The Court directed the Management to appoint such a Committee to evaluate the claims of the workmen, who are to present relevant materials, including a Board Resolution from 1992. An interim settlement between the Management and workmen was acknowledged and will remain effective until the Committee's decision.
