Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under Section 7A of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000, a claim of juvenility can be raised at any stage, including after final disposal of a case. The Court found that the appellant was a juvenile at the time of the offence, necessitating a proper inquiry into his age. Consequently, the Court accepted the appeal and directed that the appellant be treated as a juvenile, thereby nullifying the previous conviction and sentence under Section 302 read with Section 149 IPC.
