Judgment text excerpt

The Allahabad High Court allowed the State's appeals against the acquittal of the accused under Sections 304-B and 498-A IPC and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The Court found that the trial Court's conclusions were based on conjectures and misinterpretations of medical evidence, particularly regarding the cause of death, which was ruled out as being due to epileptic fits. The High Court upheld the conviction but reduced the sentence under Section 304-B IPC to seven years, which is the minimum punishment prescribed.
