Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the doctrine of 'equal pay for equal work' does not apply automatically in all cases, as established in State of Haryana & Others Vs. Charanjit Singh & Others (2006) 9 SCC 321. The Court directed the Management to constitute an Equi Valance Committee to assess wage parity based on the nature of work and responsibilities, as this assessment was not previously undertaken. An interim settlement between the Management and workmen was acknowledged and will remain in effect until the Committee's decision.
