Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed a contempt application against tenants for failing to comply with an order to vacate premises by March 31, 2008, as per the undertaking filed in SLP (C) No. 17486 of 2007. The Court found the tenants' conduct contemptuous due to the delay in vacating, which occurred only on July 14, 2009. However, considering the eventual compliance, the Court decided not to initiate contempt proceedings but ordered the tenants to pay all arrears of rent and a cost of Rs. 30,000 to the landlord, to be paid within four weeks.
