The Supreme Court held that the cancellation of caste certificates without issuing notice and affording an opportunity of hearing violates the principles of natural justice. The Court found that the High Court erred in dismissing the writ petition without addressing this violation. Consequently, the Court quashed the order dated 30th March, 1999, passed by the Tehsildar, while allowing the Tehsildar to issue a fresh order after providing the appellants an opportunity to be heard.
