Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the compensation awarded under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, affirming the Tribunal's application of a multiplier of eight for calculating loss of future earnings due to permanent disability from a motor vehicle accident. The Court ruled that the claimant, an Assistant Executive Engineer, was entitled to 100% compensation as per the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923, despite the Insurance Company's appeal to reduce the compensation amount and interest rate. The High Court's reduction of interest from 12% to 9% was also addressed, but the overall compensation was largely maintained.
