Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellant under Section 8C read with Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, for possession of 252 grams of charas. However, considering the appellant's circumstances, including the fact that he had already served nearly 9 years of his sentence and was unable to pay the imposed fine, the Court reduced the fine from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1,000, with a corresponding default imprisonment of one month. The appeal was allowed to this extent.
