Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, compensation for injuries must be calculated according to the Second Schedule, which includes loss of income based on the victim's age and income. The Court found that the appellant, a professor with a monthly income of Rs. 3,000 and a permanent disability of 35%, was entitled to Rs. 2,14,000 for loss of income, in addition to medical expenses and other compensation awarded by the Tribunal. The appeal was allowed, enhancing the compensation amount and granting interest at 6% per annum.
