The Supreme Court, in a Lok Adalat proceeding, upheld the High Court's award of total compensation amounting to Rs.11,97,000/- for the death of the respondent's son, aged 25. The Court directed the insurance companies, Oriental Insurance Co. Ltd. and United India Insurance Co. Ltd., to pay an additional Rs.5,55,000/- to the respondent, to be shared equally, after noting that the respondent had already received Rs.6 lacs. The appeals by the insurance companies were disposed of in accordance with this agreement.
