Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellants under Section 498A IPC for subjecting the deceased to cruelty in connection with dowry demands, while overturning the convictions under Section 306 IPC for abetment of suicide. The Court emphasized that the evidence of cruelty was sufficient to establish the offence under Section 498A, but the prosecution failed to prove the necessary ingredients for abetment of suicide under Section 306. Consequently, the appeal was partly allowed, maintaining the conviction under Section 498A while setting aside the conviction under Section 306 IPC.
