Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that under the Requisitioning and Acquisition of Immovable Property Act, 1952, there is no provision for granting solatium or interest on compensation, as established in Union Of India v. Hari Krishan Khosla, 1993 Supp (2) SCC 149. The Court set aside the High Court's award of 15% solatium but upheld the 6% interest on the enhanced compensation due to the delay in appointing the competent authority. The appeal was partly allowed, affirming the interest but rejecting the solatium.
