Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed a writ petition under Article 32 of the Constitution concerning service parity between army personnel and officers in the General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF). The Court held that while disparities in service conditions exist, the terms for GREF personnel from different sources may differ, and thus, the Government is not mandated to ensure parity as claimed by the petitioners. The Court referred to previous judgments, including R. Viswan and Sukhdev Singh Gill, clarifying that the terms of service for GREF personnel do not equate them to members of the Armed Forces, and any disparity should be considered by the Central Government but does not warrant judicial intervention.
