Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court held that the eligibility criteria for the post of Gram Sevak, as per the Government Resolution dated 6.6.2001, require a Secondary School Certificate and a Diploma in Agriculture (two years' course). The Court clarified that while candidates with a Degree in Agriculture can be given preferential consideration, they must also possess the Diploma to be eligible for appointment. The Court upheld the High Court's decision that the appellants, who only held a Degree in Agriculture, were not eligible for the post, thereby dismissing the appeal.
