Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court modified the compensation awarded under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, holding that the loss of dependency should be calculated based on a 2/3rd contribution of the deceased's income to his family, rather than the 50% previously applied. The Court also corrected the multiplier from 11 to 12, resulting in a total compensation of Rs. 2,50,000, including Rs. 10,000 for loss of estate and funeral expenses. The appeal was allowed in part, with interest at 9% per annum from the date of the petition.
