Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the High Court affirming the arbitrator's award in favor of the appellants under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The Court clarified that under Section 30 of the Act, an award can only be set aside on limited grounds such as misconduct or invalidity, and not merely on the basis of dissatisfaction with the arbitrator's findings. The Court found no merit in the ONGC's claims of legal misconduct or the arbitrator's alleged ignorance of vital documents, thus confirming the award of Rs.56,42,940/- along with interest at 16% per annum.
