Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the High Court's decision regarding the eligibility of respondents for an increased age of superannuation to 62 years as per the Government of India's directive dated 31.8.1998, while dismissing WP No.1757 of 1988 as academic. The Court clarified that the classification of posts is the responsibility of the Board of Governors under Statute 11, and the court should not assume this function. The Institute was directed to implement the High Court's order and pay the respondents their dues upon receipt of necessary grants from the Government of India.
