Judgment text excerpt
The Supreme Court upheld the decision of the Madras High Court which quashed the termination of a Stenographer's services based on the cancellation of her Scheduled Caste certificate. The Court emphasized that under G.O.Ms. No.477 dated 27.6.1975, a child of a scheduled caste parent can adopt the caste of either parent. It was found that the District Vigilance Committee was improperly constituted with only two members instead of three, rendering its decision invalid. The Court held that the termination was unjustified and remitted the matter back to the Vigilance Committee for proper examination.
