Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court upheld the conviction of the appellants under Sections 306 and 498A IPC, affirming the findings of the trial court that the deceased was subjected to cruelty and that such treatment led to her suicide. The Court noted that the dying declaration of the deceased, which exculpated the appellants, was not credible given the circumstances of the case. The appeal was dismissed, and the sentences of three years rigorous imprisonment for each count were maintained, to run concurrently.
