Judgment text excerpt

The Supreme Court addressed the application of Section 50 of the Indian Evidence Act, 1872, in a dispute over property inheritance among descendants of Chartu. The Court held that the property in question was joint Hindu family coparcenary property, and thus Nandi, who was claimed to be a daughter of Chartu, did not inherit any interest therein. The judgment of the Punjab and Haryana High Court was upheld, confirming the relationship of the appellants as heirs of Bakhtawar Singh.
